Overview

This six day Taupo and Hawke's Bay journey includes luxury accommodation at Huka Lodge and Rosewood Cape Kidnappers, private guides and drivers and most meals and wine. Your Taupo journey includes a private guided walk from Kinloch to the stunning Kawakawa Bay followed by a private lunch cruise with wines on Lake Taupo, as well as the chance to experience mighty Huka Falls. You'll spend the last two days in the stunning Hawke's Bay region overlooking the rolling hills, enjoying an open-air Can-Am tour and beach picnic, wine tasting and gourmet dining each evening.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

On arrival into Taupo, you will be met for your transfer to Huka Lodge. This afternoon you might like to enjoy the lodge facilities, with a game of tennis, pétanque or croquet, or take advantage of the mountain bikes on offer and explore the area on two wheels. This evening, enjoy pre-dinner canapes and drinks in the lounge followed by a multi-course dinner prepared by Huka Lodge's expert chefs.

Day 2

This morning, you'll be collected by your driver mid-morning for your guided walk to Kawakawa Bay. Departing from Kinloch, you'll hike with your guide along the Great Lakes Trail enjoying hilltop water views on this two hour walk. At Kawakawa Bay, where there is no road access, you will be collected by boat for your private cruise out onto Lake Taupo. Your cruise includes a gourmet lunch and wines, and there is the opportunity to fish and view the Maori carvings on the cliffs surrounding the lake. After a special day on the land and water, enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapes, before a decadent five-course dinner at the lodge.

Day 3

After breakfast today we recommend taking the short riverside walk from the lodge out to Huka Falls, where you will experience the mighty power of this popular New Zealand attraction. Walk a little further and enjoy a dip in the geothermal waters on the riverside spa walk before returning to your accommodation. After your walk and dip, enjoy an included lunch on the terrace and the opportunity to relax in the afternoon around the lodge with some fly-fishing or perhaps a spa treatment. Tonight, enjoy destination dining in one of Huka Lodge's private dining spaces dotted around the lush grounds or by the river (subject to availability).

Day 4

Your final morning at Huka Lodge is yours to enjoy with a lie-in or perhaps a river walk to start the day. Enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast and coffee on the terrace before a late morning departure from the lodge. During your scenic private transfer to Cape Kidnappers, you'll stop at one of Hawke's Bay's premier vineyards for a tasting and lunch at the Winery Restaurant (lunch at cost for flexibility today), before checking into your accommodation. This afternoon, enjoy a self-guided walk or ride around the trails on the Cape Kidnappers farm this afternoon to take in the stunning coastal and rural scenery, or alternatively, you may like to learn about the 6000-acre working farm. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapés this evening, followed by a superb five course tasting menu.

Day 5

After a hearty breakfast, you'll set off for an exhilarating Can-Am journey to and from historic Rangaika Beach, the perfect way to see the vast landscape enclosing Rosewood Cape Kidnappers. Four-wheel drive to the very end of Ocean Beach and Flat Rock, then power along the old creek bed, and on to Rangaika Beach, where you'll enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. Subject to conditions, there is time at the beach for swimming, snorkelling, beach cricket or a stroll on the sand before returning to the lodge. Enjoy a free afternoon on the farm, before settling in for your pre-dinner drinks and five-course tasting menu, ending with petit fours.

Day 6

Enjoy a slow pace on your final morning before checking out. Depending on your departure time, you might like to enjoy an optional kiwi experience or a game of golf at the famous Cape Kidnappers course today. Your private transfer to Hawke's Bay Airport is included and scheduled to suit your onward plans.
