Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

After landing at Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) Airport, you’ll be transferred to Longitude 131°, your luxury lodging with views over Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Premium food and wine is included throughout your stay here. This afternoon you’ll view cave paintings at Uluru before visiting Kantju gorge at dusk to watch the rock walls changing colour as the sun begins to set. Capture the changing light reflected over Uluru’s many faces over a chilled glass of wine and canapés before returning to camp for dinner showcasing local produce at the Dune House restaurant. After dinner retire to your stunning tent, perhaps relaxing on the deck lounge to take in the silence of the dessert at night.

Day 2

Explore the impressive formation of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) on a private guided walk today. Your Longitude 131° guide will meet you after an early breakfast for your transfer to Kata Tjuta. Renowned as the best day hike in the region, you will follow your guide along a challenging trail traversing rocky terrain, creeks and canyons leading to a spectacular natural amphitheatre, known as the Valley of the Winds. Your four-hour hike will see you return to camp in time for a late lunch. This afternoon there’s time to relax by the pool with views of Uluru, before visiting the Field of Lights later this afternoon. As the sun sets, you’ll witness the spectacular sight of this art installation lighting up the desert landscape. Tonight enjoy dinner at Table 131° dining under the stars at an exclusive venue among the dunes. Enjoy the sense of natural theatre over four courses complemented with fine Australian wines. Later, a Lodge guide regales the gathering with tales of the Southerly constellations.

Day 3

After breakfast this morning, join your Longitude 131° host on a guided walk along a portion of the Uluru base walking track. The 10km base walk is a must-do and the flat path makes it a pleasant morning walk and an opportunity to learn about the Mala people and rock art from your guide. Return to camp in time for another wonderful three-course lunch with wines. This afternoon is yours to relax by one of the two pools, or to enjoy a massage or treatment at the spa. Tonight you'll be spoilt with a Dune Top dinner overlooking Kata Tjuta and Uluru, which begins with private sunset drinks with fellow Dune Top dinner guests. Due to tomorrow's early morning departure, the Longitude team will prepare a takeaway breakfast for you.

Day 4

Depart Longitude early this morning with a pre-dawn transfer to the airport for your flight to Kings Creek Station. On landing you'll be whisked to the Canyon trailhead, and enjoy a 3-hour self-guided rim walk taking in the valley and canyon walls from all angles. After your walk, you'll make your way back to your waiting aircraft at Kings Creek and fly the rest of the way to Alice Springs. You’ll be met at the airport by your private driver and dropped at The Ghan station in plenty of time for your early evening departure. Notice the changing colours and vast landscapes outside the window as you journey north from Alice Springs, departing in time for a sunset drink and dinner onboard.

Day 5

Continue on your Ghan journey today as you travel across the outback arriving in Katherine this morning after a relaxed breakfast onboard. Prepare to experience one of the region’s most impressive natural wonders, Nitmiluk Gorge, part of the 292,000-hectare Nitmiluk National Park. You'll explore the gorge from the water with a guided cruise included today before re-joining the train and continuing your journey into Darwin arriving this evening. Extension options are available to continue your Top End journey.
