It was an amazing experience - I felt pampered and looked after from the moment I met the guides
Walk overview
One of the Great Walks of Australia, The Freycinet Experience Walk explores the pristine beaches and rugged pink granite peaks of Tasmania's picturesque Freycinet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay.
Starting in Hobart, this small group walk for up to 10 guests is based at an award-winning sustainable eco-lodge, secluded in native bushland just metres from Friendly Beaches. Guests are split among two buildings, each containing four bedrooms, a shower room, two toilets and a communal living area with a cosy fireplace. Mealtimes are a communal affair with fellow guests, guides and lodge hosts, served in the separate dining annexe, or alfresco on the outdoor deck.
As well as covering nearly 40 km on foot over four days, there is also the opportunity to enjoy boat rides, swimming, snorkelling and even fishing. Each night, guests return to the comfort of the lodge, enjoying multi-course meals showcasing local produce, accompanied by Tasmanian wine.
What we loved
This walk was the most amazing getaway experience I have ever had. I couldn't get enough of the beautiful scenery from the white beaches and aquamarine water to the dramatic granite cliffs.
I loved the lodge for its simplicity and luxuriousness. I also enjoyed the opportunity to go off-grid and reconnect with nature.
Everything was well planned, the food was exceptional, and the guides were knowledgeable and thoughtful. The customer service exceeded my expectations with the guides and the lodge hosts going above and beyond, catering to every need. I felt pampered and looked after from the moment I met the guides.
What surprised us
The lodge was a literal surprise on the first day of the walk. It appears from nowhere as you head into native bushland just metres from the beach. Awarded first place in the 2018 Architecture Awards for enduring Architecture, the minimalist and rugged form of the so-called "invisible lodge" has only improved with time. The lodge is purpose-built for walkers, and reflects the designer's intention for guests to "touch the earth lightly." The restrained design allows you to feel a deep connection to the place.
Don't let its ruggedness deceive you - the lodge truly is a home away from home with luxurious touches like local artwork adorning the walls, a claw-footed bath and comfy beds. I loved its raw natural beauty and there is plenty of space to mingle with fellow guests or spend some quiet alone time in your private room if you so wish. Guests have expressed concerns about the limited number of bathrooms, but with only three or four others sharing the space with you, it's not an issue.
The Freycinet Experience Walk exceeded my expectations. Every aspect of the walk blew me away, with each moment feeling like an adventure. The wilderness is very special and the scenery is simply breathtaking.

With the Freycinet Experience Walk commencing and ending in Hobart, Walk into Luxury can assist with pre and post-walk luxury accommodation. Our favourites include the MACq 01 Hotel and the Henry Jones Art Hotel. Both are set in the historic wharf district, with easy access to the walk's starting point.
Consider adding another Great Walk of Australia to your journey with the Maria Island Walk which combines four days of walking through a World Heritage-listed national park with comfortable eco-accommodation and Tasmanian food and wine.
For a more personalised experience, enjoy a private tour of Tasmania's pristine wilderness with our 3 Day Lake St Clair Walk at Pumphouse Point. Our 8 Day Tasmania Wilderness Journey combines the best of Lake St Clair with extra time in Hobart and an all-inclusive stay at the beautiful Saffire Freycinet, a Luxury Lodge of Australia.
We also recommend a luxury Port Davey Cruise onboard Odalisque III, a floating Luxury Lodge of Australia. Explore the remote and unspoiled southwest of Tasmania on a four or six-day journey that includes return seaplane transfers from Hobart.
