When is the best time to visit Ningaloo Reef?

Ningaloo Reef is blessed with warm weather year-round and little rainfall. The hottest months are November to February which can be very humid and bring seasonal cyclones and destructive winds.

For this reason, Sal Salis - one of our favourite places to stay at Ningaloo - packs up its beachfront safari camp at the end of its season in November and reinstalls the camp in time to reopen in March.

The best months to visit Ningaloo are March to October, and if you are interested in swimming with whale sharks we recommend aiming for mid-March to late July. There are great snorkelling opportunities in August to November too though, with Mantarays, dugongs and turtles commonly spotted and a chance to swim with humpback whales in these months. You can view average temperatures at Ningaloo at this local weather site.
