When is the best time to visit New South Wales?

Much of New South Wales enjoys a mild sub-tropical climate with humid warm summers and mild winters. Sydney and the Blue Mountains region are generally four or five degrees cooler than the Central Coast and the northern NSW Hinterland region including Byron Bay.

The warmer summer months are great for enjoying the beautiful beaches, but January to March can be humid and bring rainfall. The wettest month is generally in June, but winter is otherwise known for its colder, drier weather patterns. Spring brings fine, mild days perfect for hiking but still cool enough to enjoy a red wine by the fire at night.

You can learn more about the weather to expect in Sydney and the Blue Mountains below, along with the Central Coast, Byron Bay and Lord Howe Island (which is a two-hour flight east of Sydney).
