The dry season (May to October) is ideal for snorkeling and hiking, while the wet season (November to April) brings heavy rainfall, rejuvenating the rainforest. Overview

Located in Tropical North Queensland, the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest experience a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season, from May to October, offers warm temperatures and low humidity, ideal for outdoor activities like snorkeling and hiking. The wet season, spanning November to April, brings higher humidity and heavy rainfall, rejuvenating the lush rainforest environment.

Temperatures

  • Dry Season (May to October): Daytime temperatures typically range from 24°C to 30°C (75°F to 86°F), with cooler nights.
  • Wet Season (November to April): Daytime temperatures generally fluctuate between 27°C and 33°C (81°F to 91°F), accompanied by warm, humid nights. This is also the season when stingers are present in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkeling in a wetsuit (stinger suit) is recommended, and many lodges/cruises offer these wetsuits to guests.

Rainfall

The wet season is characterized by heavy, frequent downpours, with some areas receiving over six meters (236 inches) of rainfall annually. This abundant precipitation sustains the rich biodiversity of the Daintree Rainforest.
