This rewarding Nikko hike takes you around Lake Yunoko to the top of Yudaki Falls, before descending through environmentally significant wetlands to Ryuzu Falls
Beginning at Lake Yunoko, take in the alpine lake and forest views as you make your way to the top of Yudaki Falls. After descending to the base of the towering waterfall, your private guide will lead you alongside the Yugawa River through a peaceful forest, which eventually opens onto the vast Senjogahara, one of Japan’s largest wetlands. As the trail transitions from shaded woods to open boardwalks across the marsh, the landscape shifts dramatically, offering sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. After crossing the wetlands, you’ll continue to picturesque Ryuzu Falls, named for its dragon-like shape. A café at its base provides the perfect spot for a relaxing soba noodle lunch with a front-row view of the falls.
Recommended late March to early December. This experience is also possible in the off-season, but crampons may be required when snow is on the ground. Speak to your Journey Designer for personalised advice based on your travel dates.
