Discover Japan's best Onsen experiences, with these hot spring baths the perfect compliment to a day exploring the mountainous trails of Japan

1Overview
Overview

After a day exploring the trails of Japan, there is nothing better than a soak in an Onsen like the locals. Onsen, which means natural hot spring, are heated by geothermal activity beneath the earth's surface and there are over 27,000 scattered across the Japanese archipelago. The Onsen experience is an integral part of the culture here, with the mineral-rich baths being used for centuries to treat ailments and relax. Our signature journeys of Japan feature several Onsen experiences, but some of our favourites include the private Onsen overlooking the bamboo forest of Fufu Nara, the open-air Onsen baths of Nakanoshima Island (Kii Peninsula Journey), and the outdoor baths of Ritz Carlton Nikko.
