Summit the infamous Torii Pass on this well-preserved section of the Nakasendo Trail, passing through scenic forest on your private guided walk from Yabuhara to Narai

1Overview
Overview

One of the best-preserved sections of the Nakasendo Trail, this walk starts on the main street of Yabuhara near a picturesque Shinto shrine. After following the road through the town, cobblestone steps mark the continuation of the Nakasendo trail as it ascends into the forest above Yabuhara. Climb this steep - but short - section of the trail through to Torii Pass - the highest point on the Nakasendo trail and the site of a famous battle - before descending to Narai. As you make your way down into the valley, enjoy the scenic glimpses of the old post-town of Narai below. Known as the “Town of a Thousand Houses,” the well-preserved traditional wooden buildings offer a glimpse into Japan’s storied past.
