Follow the quiet mountain paths of the Nagiso to Nojiri section of the Nakasendo Trail, taking in the rural landscapes, dense forests and azure streams of the Kiso Valley as you hike

1Overview
Overview

Walk from Nagiso to Nojiri on the Nakasendo Trail following in the footsteps of Edo-period travellers, led by your private guide. This lesser-trafficked scenic section of the trail - also known as 'Yogawamichi' - spans approximately sixteen kilometres and originally served as a detour when floods damaged the main route. Along with beautiful scenery, traditional villages, and views of the Kiso River, one of the trail's highlights is a boardwalk through a bamboo forest. As you approach Nojiri, you'll walk alongside the stunning Atera River, renowned for its brilliant azure waters. If time permits, your guide will take you to the stunning Atera Gorge for a swim and a scenic picnic lunch to finish the day. This historically rich section of Japan's Samurai trail is ideal for those seeking a quieter, more reflective walk in nature and a glimpse into traditional rural life.
