Climb the Daimon-zaka stairs through ancient cedar forest to Nachi Taisha - one of the Kumano Sanzan Grand Shrines - before finishing at the base of Japan's tallest waterfall
The walk to Nachi Falls and Nachi-Taisha is a fitting end to any Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. The walk starts at the base of Daimon-zaka; a staircase of some 600 worn stone steps leading pilgrims to the sacred Nachi Taisha grand shrine. Pass between ancient cedar forest and enjoy the mountain views as you emerge into the clearing at the top near Nachi Taisha. The walk continues to Seiganto-ji Temple - one of Japan's most recognisable symbols - where you have a grand view of towering Nachi Falls. Finally you will descend to the base of Nachi Falls for a unique perspective of Japan’s tallest waterfall.
