The towering dolerite columns known as Bishop and Clerk are a dominant geological feature on Maria Island on Tasmania’s East Coast, and offers a challenging 12 km hike for the experienced walker. The largely uphill walk passes through grasslands, tall woodland forest and rare ‘cloud’ rainforest before reaching the summit at 620 metres above sea level. The challenging climb is well worth it for the panoramic views from the top of Maria Island’s pristine bays and the ocean beyond.
